This Is the Day that the Lord Has Made

October 25, 2012

Today’s Reflection

A FEW YEARS ago, I was having some troubling days. At the end of one of these, while I was driving home, I saw the most beautiful sunset. I could almost hear God say, “This may have been a difficult day, but here is something especially for you.” I know God doesn’t make sunsets just for me, but in that moment I realized that God is with me during every minute of the day. It is encouraging to be able to say to ourselves, even when the present is most daunting, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).

Blessed with beautiful weather yesterday – I played a round of golf after work. Stuck behind a foursome of men (and they say women play slow…) – I found myself getting agitated on nearly every hole as my playing companion and I had to wait. But I came to realize – what could be better – a warm fall afternoon in October – being able to play golf in shorts and spend time with a dear friend. A slight shift mentally allowed me to take in the beautiful sunshine – and how it played on the leaves that remained on the trees.

Seems like always when I get frustrated – it stems from a selfish notion. Time to re-orient and focus on Him.

I’m alive and able to communicate with God and with you. God is certainly present or that wouldn’t be possible. Out in nature one can easily see what God made for us. It amazes again and again. Sunsets, the moon on crystal clear nights, huge billowy clouds, mountains and streams, autumn leaves, birds at the feeders. Thank you God for your omnipresence.

Help us o God with your wisdom that we may be instruments of your peace in resolving the wars that are being fought. No one in their right mind wants war, violence, destruction, and the accompanying grief and stress. Change the hearts and minds of those who started the conflicts, help us work through negotiation, discussion, diplomacy, and understanding to resolve the conflict and restore peace. I pray especially for Afghanistan and Syria where so many are dying needlessly. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Amen and amen!

It is difficult, in this time of worldwide unrest and civil disunity in America to be at peace and know God is in charge.
