A Prayer for Good Work

October 10, 2011

Today’s Reflection

GRACIOUS AND LOVING GOD,
I give you thanks this day for the gift of my present work.
I hold in prayer those who are jobless
and those who have yet to discover their work. …
Have mercy on me for the times I have failed to love.
I praise you for giving me the opportunity to share in the work of re-creating this world.
My prayer is that my work makes the world
a little more just,
a little more peaceful, and
a little more hospitable for everyone. Amen.

Thank you for this lovely prayer. I will pray it every day as I lost what I believed to be more than a job (teaching elementary school) 17 months ago and have yet to find my place again. I also lost my Mom on Mother’s Day that year as well as a marriage in 2010.

My New King James Version ends at Exodus 40:38 but today’s scripture reading calls out Exodus 99:1 NSRV.

So I went to my Revised Standard Version (1952 vintage) and it too ends with Exodus 40:38.

Does the New Revised Standard Version have a 99th chapter of Exodus? Perhaps this was a typographical error – but it did God’s work by making me dig through a wonderful mix of GOOD BOOKS that my family holds dear.

Thank you for being a cornerstone of our day!

NOW I SEE….TODAY’S BIBLE REFERENCE….is PSALMS 99:1
BUT THE “Detour” THROUGH EXODUS WAS A BLESSING IN AND OF ITSELF. THANK YOU FOR TODAY’S MESSAGE AND BEING THERE EVERYDAY!

Here is what threw me off initially:

The LORD is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!.
Exodus 99:1, NRSV
