Offered to God

Today’s Reflection

IF YOU WOULD KNOW GOD, become acquainted with God’s friends.

The friends of God are not superhuman. Saints do not possess an extra layer of muscle. They are not taller, and they do not sport superior IQs. They are not richer, and their parents are not more clever than yours or mine. They have no bat-like perception that enables them to fly in the dark. They are flesh and blood, just like you and me, no stronger, no more intelligent. And that is the point. They simply offer themselves to God, knowing they are not the elite, fully cognizant that they are inadequate to the task, that their abilities are limited and fallible.

Friends who follow Christ are selfless, sacrificial and full of love.

Father God, I offer my life to you. Help me to be more like Jesus Christ and may you use me mightily despite my weaknesses.

We uplift the world leaders into your hands. May they follow the example of Christ and be a role model for all of us. Thank you for hearing my prayer.

I think my thought elates to the selflessness Mary mentioned and the “offering of one’s self to God” that the author describes. The characteristic that came first to my mind in answer to this question is “able to surrender.” This can be so, so difficult for some who have been trained by the world to believe that effort brings about control which ultimately yields happiness. The Christians I know who experience true joy and abundant life have done so by relinquishing control and surrendering to the Savior.
