New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

“O THAT WE may all receive of Christ’s fullness,
grace upon grace;
grace to pardon our sins, and subdue our iniquities;
to justify our persons and to sanctify our souls;
and to complete that holy change, that renewal of our hearts,
whereby we may be transformed
into that blessed image wherein thou didst create us.”
—John Wesley”

    Yes, Father, continue the holy change You have planned for me. Show me how to honor my parents, to love well…give me the right words at the right time.
    Thank you all for your words. Gail, thank you for your perspective. The more I consider the situation, it seems to me this must be what it is like for a parent with a wayward child. So desiring to step in and make a suggestion/correction, but having to let them learn, fall, fail. (Andrea – a bit like your relationship with your daughter.) Tearing of the heart.
    Mom has had several good days, which is very encouraging. We solidified plans to be with her on Mother’s Day, including her two grandsons. Hoping she will be feeling well that day, and be able to enjoy.
    Grateful for a good check-up with my rheumatologist yesterday. Tennis (team season) begins next week – I am hoping to play 3 evenings during the week. She is optimistic I will be ok. We discussed things to look out for and how to self-care. I am excited to be able to even consider this is an option, to play 3 times in four days. I am hoping for the best.
    Julie – I hope your daughter’s pain with this kidney stone isn’t too intense.
    Betsy – prayers for your church – may everyone seek to glorify Him and to love each other well. So hard, division in the church.
    Robert – Pearl sounds just like my Roger. He is up before me every morning and ready to be rambunctious. Prayers for Erich’s new job.
    Marcy – so good to have you back in the fold. Prayers of mercy for you.

    “ Grace upon grace “——Didn’t they develop a hymn from this Wesley passage? God’s abounding grace I can’t fathom sometime. It is there if only we can receive it. I pray for that transformation.

    Thank you for all the many thoughts and prayers on church division. God is in control. As Paul reminded us in Romans, it is not up to us to change people, only God can do that. Amen

    Blessings for a fruitful day for all.

      When I FINALLY realized you can’t change someone, it was an eye-opening day for me. But I CAN “pray without ceasing” for them.

    Thank you God for your amazing grace

    May all be well

    Grateful for another busy day at work

    Blessings to all

    Glad Gloria had some good days and there are plans for Mother’s Day. Lots to fathom in recent posts about relationships. I’m certainly no expert there, but am benefitting from what has been shared. Thank you UR family. Prayers for Gloria, Julie, Marcy, and Anneliese and all who have health concerns. May God’s peace be with everyone whether dealing with health, relationships, or any other concern. Prayers for a divided church. Sadly it doesn’t take much for that to happen. There are factions in the church I attend. The this and the that, the x-bellies Who and the o-bellied who.

    What would we do without these two aspects of love: grace and mercy? Thankfully God offers both of them, precious gifts to people who can not fully help themselves. We are dependent on Jesus Christ. That’s sometimes tough for independent self reliant New Englanders like me, but it is an absolute truth from the moment I was alive. Thank You, Lord, for watching out for us.

  • Andrea Posted May 10, 2018 7:45 am

    Grace upon grace, yes, this is the Loving God we rely upon.

    I pray for grace when communicating with my daughter, grace from above that I will have patience for her unpredictable moods and reactions. Jill, I am sad for you, that your mother is so emotionally fragile, and I understand how difficult that is. I pray for you and your family. Prayers too for Robert, Erich, Anneliese, Julie and her daughter, Marcy, Lou and her children, Betsy and her fellow church congregants and their pastor, Connie and her husband, April, Pam, and UR friends whose names I’ve overlooked; prayers for those you pray for and for special pets who give joy and companionship. Praying for grace upon grace for each one of you and for all who visit ER.

      Andrea, prayers for you as you reconnect with your daughter. I pray for you to take care of yourself and your emotional health and safety. I pray your daughter seeks help for her emotions which seem to overwhelm her. I pray you see your grandson very soon.

    It is sad that the church encounters strife from within because there are so many outside forces striving to pull the church apart. I continue to pray for you and your church, Betsy.
    Prayers for you and your parents, Mary. How awesome to realize that your day is done while our own is just beginning. God made an amazing world.
    Prayers for you and your family, Jill. Prayers that your health continues to be so good and that you remain able to play tennis throughout the season.
    Once again, Robert, your words are sage and soothing and I learn much and have concepts to contemplate throughout the day. One of my kitty babies is like Pearl. Tazzie greets me every morning letting me know it is time for breakfast. (In fact, Tazzie is short for Tazmanian Devil. Remember the old Looney Tunes character.)
    So good to see Marcy regularly posting again. May she receive the resources she so despartely needs.
    Blessings and prayers for and thank you to all of the UR family.
    The breeze at dawn has secrests to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.
    Rumi

    I have always loved “the breeze of dawn”.
    So glad Marcy is baaaaack!
    “Create in me a clean heart, oh God and renew a right spirit within me”.
    Bless all the Mothers and all the “Motherlies” as we approach Mother’s Day.

    Connie and Julie, you both recited two of my favorite verses! Andrea, you have been on my mind and in my heart very much lately! I have two daughters and not even sure if I will see either one this Mother’s Day. :/
