New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

THERE IS A SENSE of urgency about preserving one’s faith story in the later years. It is sad when older people wait too long to achieve this task. As the writer of Ecclesiastes stated, “Remember your creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come, and the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them'” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). We might well rephrase those words in this way: Remember … your story in the days when you can write it down, before the inevitable losses of old age come, and you can no longer fulfill that task.

Perhaps this reflection, the results of my DNA test, the possibility to participate in a study to help those with Alzheimer’s, and my experience with Mom and others with the condition urge me to go beyond My Story, my life before my children, and add my faith story even though they say they don’t believe.

I like the passage from John 3:1-17 where Jesus tells Nicodemus he must be “born from above” by “water and spirit.” So often I have read this scripture where it says to be “born again.” Nicodemus took it in a worldly way, Jesus speaks of heavenly things. While there are plenty of worldly, earthly things we don’t understand heavenly things are more difficult. Thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit to help us understand what God knows we need to comprehend, not just with our minds, but with our hearts. May that wisdom come to those who do not believe.

Thankful for the posts of the UR family, they are such a blessing. Prayers for you, your well-being, needs, concerns and thankful for the joys and blessings you receive from God.

Up twice with Pearl, but after eating she has played only a short time and then slept. More muffins for church, a trip to the gym, a phone call from the Memory Clinic, and food shopping are among today’s tasks. Also have my homework from my counselor and some translation work I can do.

Count your blessings and peace be with you till we meet again.

It is a powerful moment to share your faith story. What is like to talk of your faith and how God has worked in your life with others, except through the stories? It is sad to think many will become too old to share this with others.

Congratulations to your daughter, Lou! Graduations and new beginnings are times to celebrate. I know you are proud. Grateful today for warm weather and slowing down of the summer months. Visited with my sweet neighbor and her husband who is struggling with Alzheimer’s. They just celebrated 45 years of marriage. I admire your courage, Robert, for wanting to know more of how this disease may affect your family. Even though my dad suffered with it, it would be hard to go through that testing.

Blessings to all our UR family.

Yes, Mary, may the violence end. May children once again feel safe in their schools.
Robert, your children will cherish your stories whether they believe now or not. Perhaps your story will lead them to faith eventually. If not, they will gain a deeper understandng of you and those things important to you and circumstances that shaped you.
Betsy, may you find rest and peace as your schedule becomes less cluttered.
Blessings and prayers for and thank you to all of the UR family.
The wind is blowing. Adore the wind!
