New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

IT IS ENOUGH to affirm Jesus’ living presence at work in our lives, to call on the power of the Risen One, to pray in Jesus’ name, to ask the living Jesus to enfold our lives with his transcendent life. It is enough to picture or to think of Jesus looking directly at us and speaking our name as those who are personally loved and loved forever. It is enough to grow in the trust that enables us to tell “him the whole truth.”

During my last appointment with my spiritual director, I confessed to times when I feel unable to pray for my mom. I take comfort in knowing others are faithful in remembering her before Our Father (including several here), yet I am weary and unable to find words. She encouraged me to imagine Jesus looking intently into my eyes, and to just hold my mom in that space of His love. Yes, Father – You do enfold our lives. I trust Your Spirit to form the words when I cannot.
Betsy – how time marches on. I recall your nephew’s announcement of the engagement and now the happy weekend is here for your family. As your family gathers – I pray that tensions will be few and joyful memories will be cherished, as well as created. Praying especially for Grace.
It is good to read about the rhythms of our lives here…Mary’s mum’s birthday, Erich and Robert’s continued unfolding of plans – may Erich enjoy the snow and ski season. May God continue to be present and guiding in our lives.

It’s not easy and may feel impossible at certain times of our lives. When we are to focused on ourselves or how we are affected by the things going on around us. We can be overcome with circumstances. But it’s in discipleship that we learn the practice of letting go. Surrendering to God. Recognizing that I can not do this without him. The practice of surrendering to God is what becomes empowering in this life. Jesus is enough when I recognize that storing up treasures on earth is futile.

Have experience not receiving the reflection, it creates a void when that happens. Thankful it is here today and I hope the UR family finds it too.

Prayers for estranged family and reconciled relations when gatherings happen. Blessings to Grace and her son on his wedding day. Prayers for Gloria and Jill. Prayers for continued help and support for Marcy. Thankful for UR family prayers for Erich, Anneliese, and me. There is progress for all three of us. Prayers for Connie, Mary, Andrea, and Betsy. Your posts and concerns are remembered, lifted up. Thank You, Lord.

Christ is enough. Although the cancer has spread and the back is pain filled and weak the spirit is strong. Christ is enough. Although the view of how life would be is not as expected we find joy in sun rises, beautiful fall leaves and short visit from our son. Chris is enough. The outpouring of support from family and friends is q raft we cling too and we praise his name in love for each moment we have. Christ is enough

Just came back from Chinese restaurant cooking class. Next week is the last class for level 1. Already signed up for level 2

      Thanks for all your prayers.

Keeping Timothy in prayer and others here too. Grateful for Robert, Erich and Anneliese’s progress.

It is true sometimes I could not pray any more when I am overwhelmed but I am thankful for my dear sister, Molly, who keeps me in prayer.

      Blessings!

As well as all of you, my UR friends!

Reminders from Michael and Timothy….surrender to God and Christ is enough.
Not very good test results, but will know more in a couple of days. God knows already and He watches over this “sparrow”.
    Thankful for:
A good night’s sleep-went to bed very early.
Pork chops turning out tender in my new pressure cooker.
    Being able to drive.

    • Lou Posted November 14, 2018 6:40 am

Prayers regarding the test results. He is closer than our breath and indeed His eye is on the sparrow. peace to you.

      • Connie Posted November 14, 2018 7:42 am

And also to you, dear Lou.

  • Julie Posted November 13, 2018 8:18 am

Interestingly, I read this as I am enough. As I am, I can go to the Lord and speak with him. I do not have to do anything to be enough and still He will listen and support me through this life. That I can confess all of my sins, doubts and fears of inadequacy and still He will love me and accept me as His.
Prayers for Jill and her family. I include your mom in my daily prayers. She is never forgotten and aily lifted to the Lord.
    Prayers and welcome for Michael.
Prayers for Robert, Erich and Anneliese. May Erich find his new job worthy and may Anneliese’s pain be alleviated by the new therapies. May Robert find success with his trains.
Prayers for Timothy. May his pain be less today.
Prayers for Lou and her family. May her youngest enjoy her final year of high school.
Prayers for Betsy, Grace and all of their family. May the wedding be filled with joy.
Prayers for Mary and her new cooking endeavors.
Prayers for Connie and may the additional information be positive.
We all have our own life problems, yet we continue to look beyond ourselves and lift one another in prayer. I continue to receive your prayers and kind words throughout my current ordeal. I am thankful and heartened. I need to impress upon Megan that she needs to look for a job. She seems reluctant and I do not know why.
Prayers for all of the UR family as we pray for one another even when the person cannot

  • Mary Graczyk Posted November 13, 2018 9:29 am

We can talk to Jesus and know that he will listen. However we all need to be patient for his sign or answer. My husband & I enjoy reading the Upper Room. Asking for prayers that our American government works together in our government and gains respect for our acting President Trump. Prayers for those throughout the world that we love one another. God Bless all..

This thought is so timely, thank you UR for sending it my way. I penned a to-do list that was way too long and impossible to complete in the time I had planned. I was feeling overwhelmed. Then I read that “Jesus is enough.” This afternoon instead of continuing to push myself to get everything checked off, I took a nap. And then I took a slow walk with nothing on my mind except being outside with Jesus. Yes, Jesus is enough and He accepts me and all who come to Him…..
Just as I am, tho’ tossed about,
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
    Fightings within and fears without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

I have learned that God uses trials and hardships to bring us closer to Him
I have had some real trying times over the past 15 years and I believe that God
has used my trials and hardships to break some of my bad habits. I will not murmur against God because I know that this the way God purifys us is in the furnace of affliction. He will bring us forth from the furnace as gold tried in the fire to the praise of His glory.
