Angel

Today’s Reflection

LET US THINK a bit more about angels. On the one hand, they sometimes come to us in a very human way. They may come in the form of a loved one with whom we can talk about those stones that harden our hearts, as a good friend who keeps encouraging us to reach out for new life, or as a stranger who enters our life unexpectedly with wisdom and insight that shed light on our darkness. These people act for us as messengers from God who bring resurrection hope into our deadness.

On the other hand, angels from the Lord may come in a more spiritual way. They may appear in a significant dream that lights up an obstacle that prevents us from living fully, in a wide-awake vision that strengthens us to do what we need to do, or in a surprise thought that pops into our minds, suggesting possibilities that we had not thought of before. Sometimes the angel may come to us in the words of a Gospel reading like the Eastertide verses we are thinking about now.

I encountered an angel when I was in the hospital complex in northern Norway, staying in the hospital hotel. A Norwegian woman about my age, a hospital volunteer, always seemed to be right there at important times when I needed help during the four-plus days I was there. It was not a small hospital, it was a large university hospital campus, so it truly was one of those God-coincidences, I am sure.

It is raining here today and the buds on the smaller trees seem to be popping out right in front of my eyes as the hours pass. Re-growth, re-birth.

Special prayers for the safety of my Christian friends in Sri Lanka, Kumara and his family, Father Edwin, and Father Ranjan; and prayers for all Sri Lankans, that the violence has ceased.

When morning gilds the skies, my heart awakening rises, may Jesus Christ be praised….

I have escaped death twice thanks to my guardian angel. On my wedding day we had a car accident,as the car rolled,I cried out to God to save us and he did,I think my angel slowed everything up.I had a whiplash and my husband an arm graze.
The second time we were driving and passed a truck, then something was coming straight for our windscreen puzzling, suddenly it veered away into the road gutter,a trailer had come off the truck straight for us but the angel pushed it away into the gutter.
