New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

EXPECTATIONS can shape us in both positive and negative ways. They can help us become better people. Our parents teach us their expectations for how we will behave and treat our elders. Our teachers set expectations for how we conduct ourselves in their classrooms. Our spouse, children, and close friends likewise expect things from us (sometimes unstated things that we completely miss), and we have our expectations of others. However, too many expectations can leave us burdened and stressed and threaten our morale…. Some churches have very low expectations of their members and attenders, for fear of driving them away. But research indicates the fastest growing churches have high expectations for their members.

Today’s Question

Would you prefer to be a member of a church that expects nothing of you or one that expects you to contribute to its life or mission?  Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.
—Acts 4:32-34, NRSV

Prayer for the Week

Something More

Since World War II, The Upper Room has been sending copies of the daily devotional to military chaplains (and now to prison chaplains) for their ministries. Between Memorial Day and July 31, we aim to raise $100,000 for this valuable ministry. Please help our troops by giving today.

We have commands from God and Jesus. They are challenging and we need to commit to them knowing that even though we try our hardest it is God’s grace that pulls us over the finish line. Making the commitment is a great first step and does a lot to get us on our way. Thank You, Lord, for helping us on the way to accomplishing the tasks You set before us.

Yes, I learned more, saw more improvement, when the church raised the bar over which I was expected to jump. I’m thankful for those days and pray for more of them with my new church.

Hope the UR Daily Reflection returns to my inbox although I know how to find it on the web.

Prayers for safety, healing, release from pain, reconciliation, restoration, God’s peace, mercy, grace, and love to the UR family. Thankful for your concerns and prayers expressed in posts to the UR. Thank You, Lord, for granting the desires of our hearts that please You.

I certainly want to be in a church who pursues Christ, His mission and seeks to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with Him. I know I have found such a church, as well as the two cancer support groups. Thank You, Father – may You be glorified.
Grateful for the opportunities which time presents during the summer – catching up with a friend over a meal. Will have this blessing again today at lunch. And for an expanse of time in the morning to simply linger. Grateful for the ending of my most recent flare, and the ability to play tennis pain free and free of worry of pain. It is so refreshing. Thank You Father – for the relief You brought in Your time.
Father – hear the cries from this UR family, draw nearer to us. Thank You for the comfort You provide, fully sating.

I want to be member of a church with high expectatons for outreach and other work to further God’s work on earth as explained in the Bible. I did not like the church with high expectation to serve the church’s purpose of upkeep and renovation only.
Prayers that we see the sun again soon. We have more that seven extra inches of rain this year thus far. Our roof continues to leak as the roofer h contacted has never shown up to patch it. H will not allow me to contact the roofer I know who is reliable and prompt. So we live with the bucket still. Thank God for buckets.
Prayers for Jill and her slow summers.
Prayers for Robert and his new church, may they provide the means for him to serve others.
Prayers for Connie and her health concerns.
Prayers for Mary and her family, for abundance and joy.
Prayers for Marcy, may she receive the care she needs.
Prayers, blessings, warm hugs and thank you dear UR family

A church that glorifies God. Of course, we are expected to serve with the gifts God has given us.

      Thanks Julie for your prayers!

Help us God to bring joy to you and do our part whichever church you place us in!

      Blessings!
