Only Look to Jesus

Today’s Reflection

IN ORDER TO RESET OUR SOULS and experience the wholeness we crave, we need only look to Jesus. He showed us how to be in ministry, how to work long hours, how to address the needs and expectations of many people, all while staying connected to God. He knows that it’s all too easy to get burned out on religion. He knows that taking a real rest is rarely easy to do. He knows that we need to recover our lives. He knows how we feel and what we go through because he has lived it. God came to us in Jesus Christ and walked our steps, felt our feelings, experienced everything that we go through. He is the path to wholeness.

Today’s Question

What does a life of wholeness look like for a Christian believer? Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
—Matthew 11:28-29a (The Message)

Prayer for the Week

“O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” —Psalm 63:1 (NRSV) Submit your prayer to The Upper Room or share it in the comment section.

Initially I felt the answer to today’s question required a thesis sized answer, but Jesus tells us what to do in two words, “Follow me.” Do, be, and act like Jesus and allow God’s grace to carry you when, as humans do, you fall down.

Thankful for a rainy day yesterday. Prayers for those in Dorian’s path, for God’s wisdom to come and guide an end to gun violence, for civility in our deeply divided nation, and for healing, restoration or resolution of those who are ill. Thank You, Lord.

Thank you Bj, Laraine, and April for your comments about Psalms and trains.
I find both trains and Psalms helpful in different ways. Thankful to be able to go back and reread prior posts. Blessings to you.

I agree with you, Robert. Following Jesus life here on earth provides us a framework for living a complete Christian life. Paul also has words about Christian life. We believe Jesus was the son of God, was resurrected and will come again. By that belief we are sanctified. However, he adds that Christian faith put into action is the living testament of our sanctification.
Prayers for Robert and his train connections to so many people and places.
Prayers for healing for Andrea, Connie, Erich and Marcy.
Prayers for Jill and Larry as the wedding anniversary nears, may they support one another with kindness and understanding.
Prayers for Lou and her children as they seek their places in the world
Prayers for Mary and Molly, may the light their world with joy.
Prayers for BJ, April and Loraine.
Prayers, blessings, warm hugs and thank you dear ones in Christ

Yes, indeed, Christ is our example. We must follow Him. My thoughts also mimicked Lou’s…love. Love well. Love the Lord – your God with all your heart, all your mind, all your strength, all your soul. Love others as you do yourself. Be other oriented.
Yesterday’s first day of students was hectic and chaotic at times – but good to be back in the saddle.
What speaks to me this morning from Psalm 62 comes from verse 7 (NRSV) – “On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.” On God RESTS – if it is resting, that is where it belongs. When I try to take these things on myself – it is a laborious burden…but for Him – it is easy. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Thank You, Father.
