New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

WHEN YOU FIND yourself tempted to judge others, say a prayer of blessing for them. This morning as I took my sunrise walk on Craigsville Beach, I found a number of opportunities to bless my predawn morning companions! Tempted to judge the high school student who drove up with hip-hop music blasting, I chose to bless him and his day. Annoyed by the smoker who fowls the pristine morning air, I chose to wave “hello” and say a prayer of blessing…. I can assure you that life will give you plenty of opportunities to bless those who inspire judgment and alienation!

Today’s Question

Do you judge others more than you bless others?  Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
—Matthew 5:44 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

    I’m trying harder to bless everyone. God created us all.

    Anneliese, Meesook, TomE, Chris, and Howard are all doing better thanks to treatment, surgery, and care. Doris is getting help from Anneliese, but we are not sure about her condition. She does quite well and keeping us in the dark.
    Prayers for Marcy and Julie. Have not heard from Marcy in a long time. Peace and consolation to Connie, Andrea and Lou. Hope Betsy is well moved and settled. As best I know Baby Finn is progressing well.

    Prayers for the people of the Bahamas and areas where Dorian hit in the US and Canada. May conditions for those seeking asylum on the US-Mexico border improve.

    Thankful for progress refinishing the deck here and parts for the train layout on the way.

    Blessings and best wishes for a great weekend.

    Ah yes, the temptation to judge is strong and I am weak. Therefore every morning I ask God for His help in resisting the evil one’s siren call and for help seeing each person as His beloved child.
    I continue to struggle with seeing h in this light as he continues to seek to inflict pain. A very fine line I must traaverse in order to try to be courteous yet not let down my guard.
    I have also been praying for God to lead me to where I can serve Him where they will overlook the Reynaud’s and I can continue even in the winter.
    Prayers for physical healing for Andrea, Connie, Erich, Marcy and Robert.
    Prayers for emotional healing for Connie, Jill and Larry and Lou.
    Prayers for April, Betsy, BJ, and Mary.
    Prayers and blesssings and warm hugs and thank you dear UR faith filled souls

    Thanks Julie!

    May God help us to always see the good in others and bless them!

    Blessings!

    Thank you, Robert, thank you Julie.

    Today’s Sight Psalm is beautiful, from Psalm 62. Another way to pray with the Psalm Jill gave us for a prayer focus.

    The reading today speaks right to me. I did a poetry reading two nights ago, sharing the stage with three other poets. A first for me. My sister came and was very attention-seeking and annoying in her obsequious way. I mustered all the patience I could to be gracious to her. She is seven years younger than I and considers herself a “princess.” I believe this is God’s way of enlarging my capacity for patience and forbearing. I pray for more of that grace.

    Prayers for Robert, Julie, Jill, Marcy, Connie, Lou, Mary, Betsy, BJ, April, Pam, Edy, and any whose name I am overlooking, prayers for those for whom you pray, and prayers for all who visit UR today. Wishing all a blessed weekend.
