New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

SERVANTHOOD IS an attitude we choose, not something cast upon us. An attitude of service involves our taking responsibility in our world and our immense gratitude for all other aspects of life that serve the general welfare—trees providing oxygen, insects pollinating, water moisturizing, people manufacturing goods, truck drivers delivering, health workers administering wellness, and so on. We all serve one another and the cycle of life. … The kingdom of God, as described and modeled by Jesus, promotes a communion of servants honoring and serving one another, grateful for the gift each brings.

—Tom Camp, Upper Room Disciplines 2019: A Book of Daily Devotions (Upper Room Books, 2018)

Today’s Question

Today’s Scripture

“May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Christ was always other-centered. Denying self and focusing on assisting others is what He demonstrated with His life. And we are asked to do the same. It can look different day to day, moment to moment – in our outward actions. But on the inside, it must be a consistent, intentional effort on my part to be other-oriented.
Yesterday was a beautiful fall day. Ran in to many people I knew at the festival. Past and present students, fellow tennis players, people from church – all were out enjoying the warm sun on a cooler Fall-ish day.
Dad and I had an enjoyable meal at a favorite restaurant. We always get the walleye dinner – but he decided to try the salmon – and it was a big hit. I stuck with the tried and true walleye, and was not disappointed.
Church this morning and two tennis matches with different teams today. Looking forward to all of the above.
May all of our worship today be in spirit and in truth.
Julie – hope the botox treatment makes this upcoming season more tolerable for you. I am glad you were able to speak honestly with your doctor.

It is more blessed to give than receive. Doing so we experience God. There are many ways to give. I think posting and praying here are two of them.

Grateful for Jill’s wonderful day at the festival and with her Dad. I too hope Julie’s Botox treatment helps greatly through the coming months. Prayers for the needs of the UR family, the country, and the world. The needs are many and diverse. Thankful for God’s constant availability. Have a blessed Sunday.

I like how this reflection reminds us how interconnected we are with so many unknown individuals in the world. As I eat my breakfast, I need to be mindful and thankful to those who made the cereal and almond milk and tea. Thenthere were those who were responsible for getting it to the store where more people stocked the items and a cashier checked out my purchases. If I go further, there were those who farmed the raw materials and those who harvested them. And that is just breakfast and doesn’t count the electricity, etc. But ultimately, all can be traced to God and we need to serve Him as well as everyone on earth because we are all interconnected in one way or another.
Prayers for Jill and Larry, may both remain healthy and active.
Prayers for Robert, may he have success with his new gym and his new counsellor.
Prayers for Mary and her family as they show us how to serve others.
Prayers, blessings, warm hugs and thank you for your prayers and insights dear UR posters

I like to think that my service to my family honors God. I’ve enjoyed the time with my two daughters – we met yesterday with friends and roommates of both my daughters and I enjoyed treating them all to meals throughout the day. We enjoyed walking all over the city and spent part of the beautiful day in Central Park – I am thankful that I am able to be here and so thankful to spend time with my children. God has truly blessed me –
My youngest seems happy and well adjusted to the new environment. I am thankful for her new found friends, happiness, and good success in her program. It was a joy to have my oldest daughter join us although I often feel that she is itching to get back to her own life – but that is normal I guess.
I’m just happy to be able to visit my kids and thankful for the resources to treat them to a nice time. I’m so thankful to have my children in my life- I feel sorry for their father who has not stayed involved with them- it is sad for them all.
Thank you God for the blessings of love and family –
I hope all at the UR have a blessed Sunday.

My sister and I are visiting my aunt tomorrow. She is living alone and we hope to bring food for her as she is recovering from a heart pacer implant. We are also praying for her salvation.

Grateful for all who are praying for the needs of others.

May God help us to be others centered and continue to reflect His love every day!
