Commissioned

Today’s Reflection

GOD LEADS us as individuals and as communities to reflect the engaging grace and love of God revealed through Jesus the Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We as Christians affirm this regularly and sacramentally. In our baptisms, we are commissioned, literally co-missioned with Christ, to a life in God’s grace expressed through commitment to God’s ministries in the world.

—Rebecca Dwight Bruff, Loving the World with God: Fourth Day Living (Upper Room Books, 2014)

Today’s Question

In what ways are you co-missioned with Christ? Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
—2 Corinthians 5:20 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Grant us, Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:
a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
a world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them;
a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect;
a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.

Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

    Being aligned with His will, desiring to receive His beckoning and discernment as I work my way through each day, attentively. Trusting He will bring others onto my path, so that we may help each other.
    Powerful moments in church yesterday. My pastor was moved to tears as he stepped to the pulpit. He was overcome by the music and the baptism testimonies, as well as this holiday season. He lost his father in June. There seems to be much loss in my church this year. My friend, Sharlotte – who lost her mom two weeks ago, was there and we sat together for quite a while afterwards, sharing and praying.
    Dad was over for lunch and we watched the football game together. He, too, is feeling emotional. It seems important to him to go back over mom’s “time-line”. I am not sure why he continues to replay this in his mind.
    Mary – praying for your family in the days ahead. I know your grateful heart and trust in Our Father will sustain you.

    I am asked to live in accordance with His love for one all. I am commissioned to see Him in everyone I meet and to extend to them my compassion.
    Prayers for Jill and Larry, may Larry experience healing through sharing with family as well as professionals. I was going to be a grief counselor and can assure you that we each grieve differently and for differing times. Perhaps your father is wondering what he could have done differently during the time your mother struggled. Watching the suffering of a loved one is difficult and scars each of us differently.
    Prayers for Robert and Erich, may Erich find a job and may Robert coninue enjoying success with his train setup.
    Prayers for Mary and her increasing role in her church worship services and Bible studies. May God speak through her.
    Prayers for April and her wonderful insights from everyday moments.
    Megan and I went to the Pittsburgh Christmas market yesterday. It is fashioned after the similar market in Germany. Many of the vendors are international, including German.
    Prayers and thank you UR

    Hopefully I am doing what God wants me to do and thus am co-missioned. I ask for God’s direction.

    Prayers that Mary’s Bible study and musical contribution was a blessing to all.

    Yes, Jill, you, your Dad and sister, your church, and the cancer support group have been through a lot of grieving. God most assuredly helped all of you through this. I am thankful for that.

    Interesting, Julie, that the German Christmas market has an American presence. I think that is also true in some other Pennsylvania towns and cities. I would be very happy to go to one.

    Material to do the roof job was delivered today. Thankful progress is being made.

    Hope to finish gluing the cork roadbed today.

    Prayers for a safe and blessed Thanksgiving for everyone. Thank You, Lord.

    Yes we all grieve differently, I’m thankful that God helps each one of us through this.

    Welcome Ben!

    Thank you Jill, Julie and Robert for your prayers!

    Yes, Robert, the Bible study and musical contribution went well with God’s blessings.

    Presently, I am preparing for a mission trip in January 2020 with a team from our church. May God use us mightily for the expansion of His kingdom!

    Blessings to all and praying for your well-being and your families’
