New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

WE ARE CREATED to be generous. That makes sense to those who believe that we are indeed created in the image of a generous God. … Acting generously feels good and right. And when we act generously, we discover that God’s world is a world of more than enough—abundance.
The practices of prayer, gratitude, and generosity open us to seeing and loving the people and the world that God so loves. These practices nurture the seeds of a compassionate and a missional way of life.

—Rebecca Dwight Bruff, Loving the World with God: Fourth Day Living (Upper Room Books, 2014)

Today’s Question

How can gratitude for God’s generosity nurture seeds of compassion in your life?  Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”

—Psalm 9:1 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Grant us, Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:
a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
a world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them;
a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect;
a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.
Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Thankfulness and intentional gratitude opens up the spigot of grace. As we bask in the knowledge of His goodness, His provision, His unexplicable love for us – we become aware of how His grace sustains us. And – we become aware of His call for us to be His hands and feet here.
    Father – as I read so many things revolving around this Thanksgiving holiday – I look back over this past year or so and see how You have surrounded me with Your people to sustain me through this hard season. I see how You have sustained my dad’s health, as well as mine – and I am grateful.
    And while it is difficult to see so many near to me struggling with loss – through this You have drawn me closer. Do the same for them.
    Come quickly, Lord Jesus. And until then, continue to be Immanuel – God with us here and now.

    Learned this morning of the passing of Aunt Ruth, wife of my uncle, sister-in-law of my Mom. She was 95, had a couple tough months, 24/7 care, hospice, and passed peacefully and painlessly. She was the last of my Mom’s generation.

    Yes, the awareness of people passing seems to be more noticeable. I am more aware of people with illness, conditions, and difficulties not only here on the UR, but among those I know and meet.

    Prayers for God’s peace to each and every person. We are all in need of God.
    May you all have a safe, blessed, and happy Thanksgiving. Prayers for Native Americans on whose land we live. Thank You, Lord for the blessings of each day.
