New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

THE CHRIST CHILD—hope incarnate—is the center of our corporate hope, the trust that this year, in this time and place, we will be transformed by hope. Hope opens closed hearts to love and forgiveness. Hope opens stagnant institutions to new possibilities for justice and restoration. Hope opens the barred doors of hatred and violence and allows new growth in barren war zones. We, children of God, children of hope, open our lives, relationships,
communities, and countries to the transformation that comes from hope. Come, Christ; come, life; come, hope.

—Beth A. Richardson, The Uncluttered Heart: Making Room for God During Advent and Christmas (Upper Room Books, 2009)

Today’s Question

How has hope transformed your life?  Share your thoughts.

Today’s Scripture

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
—Romans 15:13 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

Clear away the clutter, O God, that I might have more room for you.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room .

Something More

Slow down, simplify, and add a burst of color to your Advent. The spiritual practice of coloring mandalas (circular designs), lighting candles, and praying regularly can help us stay centered on God during this busy time of year. Give it a try. Color as you pray this Advent season.

Father – Marcy is clinging to hope, clinging to You. Father – please intervene – may she have the medical supplies and attention that is needed. May the funding be available so she can have assistance in her home, with simple tasks and necessary errands. Father – hear our cries. Of course, You do.
Mary – thank you for your ceaseless encouragement and positivity. A bright light here in this space, as surely as it is to those in your life.
I was feeling much better by the end of the school day yesterday than the day prior. I know the meds are now working and am confident by the end of the weekend (if not sooner) I will be back to feeling well. I thank you all for your prayers.
My hope is in my Lord. His sovereignty, His plan and ultimate reunion with Him. Grateful for His calling, His leading, His comfort.

Hope is eternal. So many of my hopes have come, I’m very thankful. My biggest hope is for Erich’s future. A new plan is being developed. Many positives for it and there are ways I can help based on experience I had. A small careful start is being researched. Between previous sales experience, his degree in business management, and good research, the possibility of starting
    a business seems possible.

Yes, prayers for Marcy’s health, insurance, and well being. Prayers for Julie.
Hope all is well with hands, treatment, and safety. Thankful for Mary’s prayerful support.

Advent blessings to a the UR family. Thank You, Lord.

Prayers for Marcy, Lord reach down and hold our sister in Your arms. Send her help, both volunteer and in reinstating her many government resources. Keep her safe and well. Again my heart aches at my helplessness.
Prayers for Mary and her infectious joy and shining light. I truly encounter God through her!

More beautiful words from this week’s lectionary, from Isaiah 35:4 – Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God.” A prayer for all who fear.

I pray that merciful God will lift up Marcy and supply her with what she needs for improved health, strength, and support. Lord, hear our prayer.

May all who visit UR find the strength they need. Wishing all a blessed day.
