Dignity

Today’s Reflection

LIKE THE AIR I breathe, dignity is essential to my living, Lord. You have made me in your image and given me worth. Forgive me when I fail to respect others. Help me to diligently guard against words and deeds that strip away the dignity of those I encounter. Amen.

Here in the US, a deeply divided country, it is easy to see those with whom we don’t agree in negative ways. Lord help us to see others as You would see them. May we bite our tongues when negative words come to mind. Help us to listen more. Also grant us wisdom to know what is right, just, and fair that we may be obedient to Your will.

With colder weather coming, with homes destroyed or damaged by natural disasters, and wth the need for shelter for all people, Lord, I pray that shelter is provided.

Thankful for heat on cold days, a roof over my head, roof repairs at a
friend’s house, and roof work done at Jill’s. Thankful that soon Erich will be at work and be able to ski. Thankful for the progress on the Bismarck model.

Prayers for Cara and Cory, Connie’s neighbor and relative. May Cara and Cory find needed shelter and may the pain of the loss of a loved one be resolved. God’s peace to them and Connie’s neighbor who lost her husband and her daughter. Yes. may the tumor Connie’s relative has be benign.
Thankful for those who share their prayer needs that the UR family may join in prayer with them.
Julie you type very well despite your fingers. I am amazed how well you do.
Erich is learning the menu and practicing crepes. He and I will be glad when he goes to work, waiting for work to start is frustrating. Thankful I am able to do what I do, still need naps, voluntary or otherwise, but I am satisfied with my abilities.
I share Jill’s frustration hopoing in some way to bring her Mom to benefit from God’s love. Prayers and example are the best we can do, God does the rest.
Thankful that Mary’s new job is going so well.
Betsy and friends are sharing the good news, God will complete the work.
Yes, prayers for Andrea and family relationships, thankful that in the Lord she trusts.
So too Connie’s trust in the Lord has brought comfort and peace. A patient husband is a wonderful blessing.
Prayers for Marcy, Rusty and K, Lou, Pam, April and all UR family members. Thank You, Lord.

Yes, respecting and even bolstering another’s dignity should be in our awareness as we converse with another. I know I am often short on patience with my dad as he struggles to hear well. Sometimes he doesn’t have his hearing aids in and other times I am not as aware of surrounding noise (tv, in a restaurant, etc) which impedes his ability to hear conversations.
Yesterday was a lazy day which concluded with an impromptu dinner with my folks at a nearby Italian restaurant. I am grateful that mom is able to have daily activities outside the house – it is really good for dad too. I ran a couple of errands in the afternoon – was able to take my time shopping, which isn’t usually the case. When we returned from dinner, they came in for a bit and mom played with Roger. How I wish she would allow herself the pleasure of having a cat. She adores them.

I try to be mindful of others’ feelings because I know firsthand the emotions that are caused by callous words. The hurt and the loss of self esteem. The h is quick to spew negative and caustic remarks at me. For instance, he tells me often that I am so hideous that I frighten people when I am seen in publc.
Prayers for Erich and Robert, may they rejoice in the knowledge that employment is imminent and may they be patient.
Prayers for Jill and her parents as they each deal with a difficult situation. May they each find solace in their individual way.
Prayers for Connie and her neighbor who lost loved ones. May the doctor have good news for her relative.
Prayers for Betsy and her family and her ministry.
Prayers for Mary and her willingness to try new endeavors.
Prayers for Andrea and her family.
Prayers for Marcy and her safety.
Prayers for those who are homeless, may they receive the resources they need to find a home and rebuild their lives.
Prayers for all of the UR family and all who visit

Whenever we can, we should try to bolster a person’s self-esteem (only in a truthful way). I know we all can remember when someone in our past said something that was hurtful about our appearance, etc. It sticks with us. I was raised in a small town in an age when bullying was not tolerated…it breaks my heart with what the children have to endure now. Let’s all stick up for others when we can, especially the innocent little ones.
I would love another cat, as I also adore them. Right now I can’t take care of one like I used to, but maybe some day. Dreams!!!
    Thankful for:
    The weekend.
Making California White Bean and tomato soup with Pork Hocks. At least that is the plan!
Green grass still, and fewer leaves since the big tree was trimmed.
Julie, Jill, Robert and all. Hope all is well with Lou and others.
